I love the news that the Radio Times is featuring a Sarah Lund knitting pattern to celebrate the return of The Killing, the Danish detective show which took over my life briefly this year. Lund, in charge of the investigation and lurching wildly from suspect to suspect, famously wore the same downtrodden, bobbly snowflake-patterned jumper throughout the series.
It came to symbolise her increasingly dysfunctional life, as her boyfriend and son abandoned her and even her mother gave up nagging her and making her evil stews. There’s nothing on earth that could induce me to wear this jumper, and luckily I can’t knit properly so I won’t be tempted for a second to embark on such a doubtful project. Those who really wish to can actually purchase it online for a mind-boggling 280 euros – OMG!
Well I certainly won’t be ordering one. But it did get me thinking. Knitting ….. detectives …..November ….. shouldn’t we all be knitting something quite different, to celebrate the month of Movember? Yes, that’s right, everyone get busy with your needles and knit your own Hercule Poirot tache in support of the men’s health charity. You know you want to.
