My clever friend Tara over at Sticky Fingers has been running a gallery at her place for ages now. I think it’s a brilliant idea, but I’ve been holding back from joining in because, well, not to put too fine a point on it, my photos are crap. I’ve had many cameras in my life, and blamed them all successively for my failings, but the sad truth really is that I couldn’t compose a good photo if my life depended on it. I once visited Monet’s garden at Giverney, and managed to take a photo of a slimy piece of bridge instead of the world’s most famous waterlillies.
This week, though, Tara’s theme is Creatures and, as my lovely cat Mme Bovary is such an inspiration and delightful, constant irritant and joy, I can’t resist showing this picture again. It’s Mme B, ‘helping’ me do a blog post. As you can see in the background, I was actually trying to write before she inserted herself between me and the screen and started purring madly.
Though she is not much of a help in my working life, she has been a little pussycatty tower of strength in other ways. She always seems to know when I am down, and will come and shed hairs on me to cheer me up, or drape herself across me. I love the way she is first up in the morning, and comes bounding to greet me, while other members of the household stagger about in much less enthusiastic ways.
I’ve never owned a cat before. I may never do so again (how could I ever replace her?). But I am loving every minute of her company. Apart from the presents of worms and birdie body parts, of course.
